Greetings from Vice President
Welcome to the official website for the
Heartland Community College Chinese School! The College is proud to
support this unique program designed to be a cultural resource to
the Bloomington/Normal area. Established in 1999, The Chinese
School primarily consists of a series of Chinese language and
culture classes for young people and their parents. Classes focus on
learning to speak, write and comprehend Mandarin Chinese while
students become familiar the rich cultural heritage of the language
through activities such as traditional Chinese dancing and
international chess.
The Chinese School serves children ages 4
through 17 and their parents. Approximately
50 students participate
in the School each semester and since its inception over
500
children and adults have attended. Students have included American
born children of Chinese parents or parents of mixed marriage,
children adopted by American parents, as well as children and adults
who simply have an interest in learning more about the Chinese
language and culture.
