Heartland Community College offers training in more than 40 career fields in innovative and technologically progressive learning facilities. Classrooms and labs combine the latest advances in technology with personal, hands-on instruction students need to reach their academic goals.

HCC serves District 540, a geographic corridor that extends along Interstate Highway 55 in Illinois, roughly from Pontiac to Lincoln. Campus locations in Normal, Lincoln and Pontiac provide convenient accessibility for all District residents.

Heartland History

  • November, 1990 - District 540 Community College officially formed
  • December, 1990 - First temporary site, Landmark Mall, opens
  • February, 1991 - Heartland Community College wins name contest
  • July, 1991 - Dr. Jonathan Astroth appointed as College‚Äôs first president
  • August, 1991 - College opens for classes
  • October, 1992 - Classes begin at Towanda Plaza
  • Fall, 1993 - Nursing program begins
  • Summer, 1994 - College accredited by North Central Association of Colleges & Schools
  • June, 1998 - Permanent campus ground breaking
  • February, 2000 - New logo adopted
  • Fall, 2000 - Main campus opens in Normal
  • October, 2004 - Workforce Development Center groundbreaking
  • August, 2007 - Heartland Hawks Athletic teams launch inaugural seasons
  • August, 2007 - Workforce Development Center Opens
  • April, 2008 - Beyond Buildings College Development Plan begins
  • April, 2008 - Heartland signs agreement to purchase Challenger Learning Center
  • March, 2009 - Groundbreaking on Heartland's campus for Normal Professional Baseball Stadium
  • April, 2009 - Green Institute and Pregracke Exhibit Dedication and Opening
  • May, 2009 - Unveiling of "Hunter" Hawk Mascot
  • May, 2009 - Hawks Women's Softball team wins National NJCAA Division II Championship
  • May, 2010 - Dedication of Astroth Community Education Center and Challenger Learning Center
  • July, 2010 - Dr. Allen Goben begins term as 2nd College president for Heartland
  • August, 2010 - Founding President, Dr. Jonathan Astroth retires
  • September, 2010 - Heartland purchases 96 acres of property adjacent to main campus
