Improve your English language skills with ESL classes.

Whether you're just learning English or have a pretty good understanding of the language, our two ESL programs can help.

Functional ESL (FESL): Learn how to read, write, speak and understand English in a class at your level

Academic English Language Program (AELP): For those who speak and understand English but want to improve their language skills to prepare for college-level classes

Morning and evening classes are available to fit your schedule. Generally classes meet three days per week.

Classes are held on the main campus in Normal, Illinois.

There is no cost to you. Classes are paid by state and federal grants.

Once you enroll, you'll get a Heartland student ID. With that ID, you can ride Connect Transit buses for free.

You may call the Child Development Lab on Heartland's campus to learn more about your childcare options. Their number is (309) 268-8210.

Get started

Before you can start class, you'll need to take a short speaking test so we know which class is best for you. Once we know your level and give you an orientation to our program, you'll be ready to begin classes.
If you have any questions about starting an ESL program, give us a call.
