Career Advising

Need help selecting a major or choosing a career path?

Career Advising at Heartland Community College helps you discover the right path for you.

Take advantage of resources free to HCC students:

  • Visit Career Cruising, a website dedicated to helping students explore jobs and the education and experience required.

                        Log-in: heartland
                        Password: college

Once you're signed in, click on Login and then click My Plan on the left side of the page. My Plan will be where you store your assessment results so that you can access them at a later date.

From the homepage, click on Assessments at the top of the screen. You can also click on Explore Assessments on the left side of the screen. Choose one of the assessments below:
Career Matchmaker - This is a great place to start, as it matches your interests with careers.
My Skills - Another way to see how your skills will match up with different careers.

  • Take the Career Choice (GENS 101) class.
  • You could take either of the following two career assessments: Strong Interest Inventory (SII) or Myers-Briggs Type Indication (MBTI). Call the Advisement Office at (309) 268-8027 to set up an appointment to meet with an advisor to discuss what options you have for career assessments on campus. Once your assessment is complete, you will meet one-on-one with your advisor to interpret and discuss your results.
