The Alumni Association (HCCAA) will award a yearly scholarship to a registered member of the Alumni Association or a dependent of a registered member of the Alumni Association who through his or her accomplishments, both personally and academically, personifies the values of the College which include a "can do" attitude, dedication to academic performance, and ethical decision-making among others.
Jen Stewart never expected her family to pay for her education and she considers it a privilege to take on the responsibility herself.
However, receiving $500 from the Alumni Scholarship Fund will offset some costs and help Jen focus on maintaining the high grade point average she's kept while serving as president of the Heartland chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and as a member of Heartland's English Honor Society.
Jen is also a student member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and works in Heartland's Disability Support Services where she serves as a teacher's aid in the Heartland Academy of Learning Opportunities (HALO) Program.
"The Alumni Association scholarship has helped me take a few more steps closer to meeting my goals and aspirations," according to Jen. What does she want to do in the future? Jen plans to attend Illinois State University and eventually wants to receive a doctorate and devote her time researching one of two areas of interest - alternative fuels or effective cancer treatments.
