Heartland Idol is a musical competition based off the hit TV show American Idol, where individual and ensemble acts will compete for for Crowd Favorite and Critics' Choice awards and a prize package from the Shopppes at College Hills.  In addition, the Critics Choice winner Katie Campos won the opportunity to sing the national anthem at the opening day of the CornBelter baseball season May 21.

This year's Heartland Idol, the forth year for the competition, raised nearly $4,700 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

The competition was kicked off with the pre-show performance from Toocan, a popular, tropically-inspired trio of local musicians, including Heartland's own Associate Director of Marketing and Communications Anjanel Folkens. In addition, former Heartland Idol Critics’ Choice winner and potential “The Voice!” television show participant Caitlin Tucker joined Heartland President Dr. Allen Goben in a duet of Edwin McCain's "Say Anything."

Following the pre-show, eleven contestants took the stage and performed to an audience of nearly 400 in the Astroth Community Center adiutorium.  The judges included Bottle of Justus lead Singer-Guitarist Joe Quinlan, Community Players Performer/Director Penny Wilson and Gospel Recording Artist Treycé Spears who performs as Treycé and GAP.  Critic’s Choice winner Katie Campos sang Bruno Mars' "If I Was Your Man" only she changed the words to perform it from a woman's perspective.  Allison Parks was voted "Crowd Favorite" with her version of Whitney Houston's "I Believe in You and Me.

The event featured three raffles, including four tickets to the Tim McGraw/Brantley Gilbert concert in Tinley Park May 24.  Those went to George Voorhees of Peoria.
Amy Alexander of Bloomington won the party suite for 20 with VIP parking for the August 16 CornBelters’ game. 
John Williams of Bloomington won the Beds Direct/Rooms Direct $300 voucher, plus two upgraded front-row seats as part of the “Best Seat in the House” competition.
