Linking Up with LinkedIn

Where: Heartland Community College Raab Road Campus

When:  Thursday, April 4th, 2013

                       Student Session - 11:30-12:30 p.m. in SCB 2002

                       ALUMNI/COMMUNITY SESSION - 5:30-7:30 p.m. in CCB 1406-1407

Linking up with LinkedIn was a great opportunity for students, alumni, and community members to learn how to market themself in today’s competitive job market.

Presenter and Heartland alum Griffin Hammond spoke to those attending about the various aspects of LinkedIn. From how to create and enhance your LinkedIn profile, to networking and privacy settings, Hammond explained how to be an effective user of the professional social media.

Free pizza from Rosati's was provided after the student session!

"There was outstanding group participation, not only with the input presented by Director of Alumni Relations Colleen Reynolds, but the opportunity to have hands on personal instruction with an "award-winning video producer and speaker with social media and public relations expertise." - Jessica Wolfgang

The alumni and community session opportunity offered the opportunity to create a LinkedIn profile during the session. Students and attendees from the earlier section were encouraged to come back if they wanted to create or enhance their LinkedIn profile with instruction from Hammond and others.

One of the attendees, Jane Chamberlin, was thankful Heartland Community College offered the event. "There isn't any other opportunity for me to learn about LinkedIn elsewhere in the community. I realize I could go online and teach myself through trial and error, but I so enjoy learning in a campus atmosphere; I meet great people, and it's an effective way to network. Additionally, I get to see what's going on at Heartland and feel appreciation for its support of students and lifelong learners."
