Pizza with the Pros 2013
Date: Thursday, November 7, 2013
Time: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Location: Heartland Community College Normal campus at 1500 W. Raab Road
Heartland Café in the Student Commons Building (SCB)
This was a chance for current students to network with nearly two dozen alumni professionals and entrepreneurs from Business, Education, Information Technology, Digital Media, Healthcare, Marketing, and Manufacturing. These alumni returned to campus to help students explore possible career options.
Students participated in a panel discussion and three table sessions where they had the chance to hear personal experiences from the alumni and ask questions.
During the panel, each alumnus had the chance to give one piece of advice to the current students. Some of the advice included:
•“Find a mentor. Whatever you choose to do, if you do not ask questions, you will not get ahead.” – Dave Selzer, Community Health Charities of Illinois
•“Stay focused, keep your eyes on the prize, and stay organized.” – Janine Palma, Learning and Behavior Specialist at Normal Community High School
•“Make sure you know yourself first.” – Ashley Blotcky, Pre-K Teacher at Sarah Raymond School
•“Do not be afraid to go for your dreams and what you really believe in.” – Katie Donald, Pharmacy Student
