LinkedIn is the #1 place job recruiters go to find potential employees. That's why it's so critical you have a well prepared LinkedIn profile that really sells your skills and personality. Linking up with LinkedIn was a great opportunity for students, alumni, and community members to learn how to use this powerful social networking tool to land a job and make important connections in today's competitive job market.
In this seminar participants learned:
How to build their professional profile and control one of the top search results for their name. Presenter Blake Zitko stressed the importance of keeping an up-to-date photo and complete profile.
Search for jobs and connect with potential employers on LinkedIn. Zitko explained LinkedIn has an ability to help you streamline a search so you can zero in on jobs within a certain industry within a certain location.
Ways to use LinkedIn to build and maintain a broader network of professionals they can trust for future collaboration. Zitko suggested spending a few minutes a day to interact with someone on LinkedIn by congratulating them on a work anniversary or liking an article they posted. He says joining groups that align with your industry are also a great way to expand your network.
Presenter Blake Zito has managed social media properties as a public relations specialist with State Farm. He now works as lead storyteller with the insurance giant, focusing on helping others share interesting and compelling content with the right audience, on the right channel.
An atendee this year said, "The hands on experience and examples were very helpful." Another participant added that they benefited from the speaker's advice and tips and that it was a very comprehensive overview of the largest professional social network.
Congratulations to Julie Crafton and Halie Belz for winning the raffle drawings at each event. They each received a $25 Walmart gift card.
