Heartland Harvest 5K Run/Walk
WHEN: October 18, 2014
WHERE: Heartland Community College Raab Road campus
WHAT: A 5K course leading runners through the Heartland Community College Normal campus to the Corn Crib. Runners will be timed by the Lake Run Club.
After the race, runners and walkers enjoyed post-race snacks on the campus quad. Proceeds benefit the HCC Foundation's scholarship program. This year, the Foundation awarded more than $200,000 in scholarship support to local students.
Race Day registration/packet pick-up began at 7:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9:00 a.m.
Approximately 100 participants ran/walked the 5k course Saturday morning. Volunteers cheered on participants throughout the course and at the finish line. Refreshments, fruit, and Avanti's gondolas were offered after the race followed by the awards ceremony.
An awards ceremony took place following the race immediately after tabulation was complete. Awards were given for the top three runners in each age division (male and female):
"Not only was I able to fit in my exercise, but it was nice being able to run around campus and see the changes. The best part of the event is knowing that the money being raised is going to fund scholarships for students. I highly recommend anyone participating in the event next year," said Alumni Board President Chris Pettit.
