Reading
Improvement Classes
The
Division of Academic Support offers three reading improvement courses:
Basic Reading (READ 070), Reading Improvement I (READ 090), and
Reading Improvement II (READ 091). Students are given the opportunity
to enroll in reading improvement courses after taking the College's
reading placement test.
READ
070, READ 090, and READ 091 help students become effective, life-long
readers who have a positive attitude toward reading. This is accomplished
by students' participation in learning activities designed to develop
their ability to:
- comprehend
text effectively and critically;
- improve
vocabulary development and word recognition skills;
- apply
knowledge of learning style and study strategies;
- select
reading rate appropriate to task;
- apply
above strategies to a variety of college-level texts;
- use
self-assessment to develop reading and learning efficiency; and
- improve
attitude toward and valuing of reading.
