Types of Tutoring Available:

Overview of Tutoring:

Comprehensive tutoring services are available to all Heartland Community College students in a variety of formats, and they are free of charge. Tutoring provides individuals and small groups with assistance in specific courses or programs (e.g. MATH 087, BIOL 161, ENGL 101); basic skill areas (e.g. reading, writing, math); and study skill areas (e.g. notetaking, time management, study strategies). Tutors are scheduled at a variety of convenient times throughout the week at the Academic Support Center (ASC) in Normal and the extension centers in Lincoln and Pontiac.

Goals of Tutoring:

Please note that the tutors are not here to teach. Your instructor is the primary source of information for your coursework. The goal of tutoring at HCC is to help students become active, independent learners. Tutoring is not intended to be a substitute for class attendance, a quick-fix the day before an exam, or a question-and-answer exercise.
