Coach Kauten, is set to take over as the Hawks’ pitching coach. Kauten inherits a pitching staff that led the Midwest Athletic Conference with a 4.14 earned run average. Kauten pitched at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa before transferring to Illinois State where he pitched for two seasons.  Following his college career, the Detroit Tigers selected Kauten 313th overall in the 2004 Major League Amateur Draft. After spending half a season in rookie ball, Kauten spent the next two seasons split between the West Michigan White Caps (Tigers A affiliates) and the Lakeland Tigers (Tigers High A affiliates). In the second half of the 2005 season, Kauten went 4-2 with a 2.84 era for Lakeland.
Since, Kauten has moved on to independent league baseball. He pitched for the Lincoln Salt Dogs and currently pitches for the El Paso Diablos where he has amassed a 3.79 era in 90-plus innings.
Josh resides in Bloomington and is recently engaged to Emily Kabbes.
