Shae Wesley, Heartland's first head softball coach, took the head coaching reins following extensive collegiate and overseas playing and coaching experiences. At the helm of New Zealand's Hutt Valley Cardinals under 17 team, Wesley helped to lead the team to a 2nd place finish at National League Inter- Provincial Tournament. As a player/assistant coach for the Hutt Valley Cardinals Women's AA team, Wesley helped the team to a 4th place finish at the national tournament.
In the states, Wesley spent the past summer as Bloomington Lady Hearts Women's Major AA head coach. Wesley was also one of the Hearts' primary players, earning ASA All-American 2nd team honors in 2003 and helped the team to a 5th place finish in the Women's Major AA National Tournament in 1999. As a member of the Hearts, Wesley has played in the international Canada Cup tournament six times, facing off against the top national and Olympic teams throughout the world.
Wesley entered the collegiate scene at Illinois Central College (ICC, 2000) where she earned NJCAA national tournament all-tournament team honors in 2000 as ICC's starting catcher. During Wesley's time at ICC, she helped the team to two 1st place finishes at the Region XXIV tournament (1999, 2000) as well as a 5th (2000) and a 7th (1999) place finish in the NJCAA national tournament.
Wesley made the transition from ICC to Illinois State University's starting catcher rather seamlessly, racking up many honors along the way. As a Division I NCAA catcher and team co-captain, Wesley helped ISU to two Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) regular season conference championships, as well as the MVC tournament championship and a 3rd place finish in the NCAA Regional tournament in 2001. In 2002, Wesley earned MVC All-Conference 1st team and All-Tournament team honors. Wesley's hard work paid off as she nabbed Easton All-American 2nd team honors in 2002.
After earning her bachelor's degree in psychology from Illinois State University in 2002, Wesley garnered great success as a transitions developmental case manager at Dewitt County Human Resource Center before making her coaching return as Heartland's first ever head coach.
