ART 191: Digital Photography and Imaging I

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 99/101
AND
-Placement at college level reading

Completion of ART 180 and DMED 120 recommended. This is an introductory course that covers the basic principles of digital photography including equipment selection and use, image processing and editing in the digital darkroom. This course will also address the aesthetic concerns of a digital image as a fine art medium. Framing, composition and exposure control for DSLR digital cameras will be covered as well as an overview of the history of photography and its content as both a commercial medium and form of artistic expression. Digital Photography and Imaging will focus on the operational knowledge of Adobe Photoshop in scanning, manipulating, and printing. Students need to provide their own DSLR digital camera with manual capabilities to change the lens opening, shutter speeds and RAW file format. 3 credit hours
