ENGL 119: Adolescent Literature
-Completion of ENGL 101 with a grade of C or better
-Placement at college level reading
An introduction to a wide variety of adolescent literature, which might include such genres as fantasy, drama, classic texts, realistic fiction, the problem novel, series, and texts dealing with a variety of themes including marginalization, sexuality, technology, diversity, disability, the supernatural, and so forth. Although the course focuses on literature written for an adolescent audience, the course will also analyze cultural and literary assumptions about adolescents and the ideologies that result from such assumptions. The course encourages critical thinking and the development of analytical and evaluative strategies that are used in the understanding of adolescent literature. 3 credit hours
