Course Descriptions

ENGR 110: Engineering Graphics

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 99/101
AND
-Placement at college reading

This course is an introduction to engineering design and graphics, including design problems, sketching, dimensioning, tolerancing, multi-view orthographic representation, auxiliary views, section views, and working drawings. Students are required to use CAD in this course. Sketching and CAD techniques are integrated in this course. Additionally, Engineering Graphics covers text creation, instrument usage, charts and diagrams, three-dimensional drawings, pictorial drawings, production drawings, engineering design concepts, and fundamental descriptive geometry. 3 credit hours
IAI Major Code - EGR 941

Transferrable Elective Course: This course generally should transfer to an Illinois Articulation Initiative college or university. Please consult with your advisor about transferability.

ENGR 271: Engineering Mechanics: Statics

Prerequisite(s):
-Completion of PHYS 171
AND
-Completion of or concurrent enrollment in MATH 162
AND
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 099/101
AND
-Placement at college level reading

Mechanics is the study of the effects that forces produce on bodies. This is a course in statics, the branch of mechanics in which bodies are at rest or moving at constant velocity. Topics include particle statics, general principles and force vectors, rigid body equilibrium, moments of inertia, distributed forces and centroids, analysis of structures, virtual work, and friction. 3 credit hours
IAI Major Code - EGR 942

Transferrable Elective Course: This course generally should transfer to an Illinois Articulation Initiative college or university. Please consult with your advisor about transferability.

ENGR 272: Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics

Prerequisite(s):
-Completion of ENGR 271
AND
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 099/101
AND
-Placement at college level reading

Mechanics is the study of the effects that forces produce on bodies. This is a course in dynamics, the branch of mechanics in which bodies experience accelerations due to unbalanced forces. Topics include particle kinematics (rectilinear and curvilinear); Newton’s laws; energy, work, and momentum methods; planar dynamics and rigid bodies; rigid body kinematics; impulse and momentum; and vibrations. 3 credit hours
IAI Major Code - EGR 943

Transferrable Elective Course: This course generally should transfer to an Illinois Articulation Initiative college or university. Please consult with your advisor about transferability.
