JAPN 101: Elementary Japanese I

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 099/101

JAPN 101 introduces general Japanese language concepts and develops students? speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for real-life purposes. The course presents grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation as crucial tools for effective communication. Additionally, knowledge and understanding of the cultures of the Japanese-speaking world play an integral part in the learning process. 4 credit hours

JAPN 102: Elementary Japanese II

-Completion of JAPN 101 with a grade of C or better
AND
-Placement at college level English OR

JAPN 102 is a second semester course that continues the development of general Japanese language concepts and advances students? speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for real-life purposes. The course presents grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation as crucial tools for effective communication. Additionally, knowledge and understanding of the cultures of the Japanese-speaking world play an integral part in the learning process. 4 credit hours

JAPN 201: Intermediate Japanese I

Prerequisite(s):
-Completion of JAPN 102 with a grade of C or higher
AND
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 099/101

JAPN 201 is a third semester course that introduces intermediate level Japanese language concepts and continues to develop students? speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for real-life purposes. The course presents grammar and vocabulary as crucial tools for effective communication. Additionally, knowledge and understanding of the cultures of the Japanese-speaking world play an integral part in the learning process. Students will also be exposed to short pieces of Japanese literature. 4 credit hours

IAI Humanities JAPN 202: Intermediate Japanese II

Prerequisite(s):
-Completion of JAPN 201 with a grade of C or higher
AND
-Placement at college level English OR
-Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 099/101

JAPN 202 is a fourth semester course that focuses on the mastery of intermediate and advanced level Japanese language concepts. The course incorporates strategies to improve oral and written communicative competencies through discussions, readings, and compositions on cultures, customs, and traditions of the Japanese-speaking world. Additionally, students will analyze short pieces of Japanese literature and engage in a cross-disciplinary presentation in relation to the humanities: Art, literature, music, dance, etc. 4 credit hours
