READ 70: Basic Literacy

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at READ 070 or higher

Basic Literacy provides students with instruction and practice in essential reading and writing skills at a foundational level. 4 credit hours

Developmental Course: This course is not college level and will not transfer or count towards a degree or certificate program.

READ 90: Reading Improvement I

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at READ 090

If placed at two or more developmental levels, concurrent enrollment in or completion of GENS 105 is also required.

Reading Improvement I is an intermediate course in reading and vocabulary development that addresses academic and pleasure reading tasks. Students are provided with instruction and practice that will enable them to become members of a reading community and successfully complete briefer types of readings often utilized in entry-level college courses. 3 credit hours

Developmental Course: This course is not college level and will not transfer or count towards a degree or certificate program.

READ 91: Reading Improvement II

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at READ 091 OR
-Completion of READ 090

If placed at two or more developmental levels, concurrent enrollment in or completion of GENS 105 is also required.

Reading Improvement II is an advanced course in reading and vocabulary development that emphasizes academic reading tasks. Students are provided with instruction and practice that will prepare them to successfully meet the full range reading demands typical of entry-level college courses. 3 credit hours

Developmental Course: This course is not college level and will not transfer or count towards a degree or certificate program.

READ 95: Supplemental Reading Lab

Prerequisite(s):
-Completion of English and reading placement tests.

Supplemental Reading Lab is designed to improve your ability and efficiency to read and comprehend text independently. Students are provided with instruction and practice in thinking critically using individualized and small group instruction. 4 credit hours

Developmental Course: This course is not college level and will not transfer or count towards a degree or certificate program.

READ 101: College Reading in the Content Areas

Prerequisite(s):
-Placement at college level reading OR
-Completion of READ 091

READ 101 is a college-level course in reading and vocabulary development. Students are provided with instruction and practice in efficient information processing strategies that will prepare them to successfully meet the full range of reading demands typical of any undergraduate course. 1 credit hour

Transferrable Elective Course: This course generally should transfer to an Illinois Articulation Initiative college or university. Please consult with your advisor about transferability.
