Cornerstone Project

Beginning with what have been deemed the "Cornerstone" courses in our General Education Program (those with the highest enrollment), the Cornerstone Project is an intensive course revision process with the aim of linking course learning outcomes to General Education Program Outcomes (Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication, and Diversity) and developing meaningful assessments for those Program outcomes.

The project coordinates the efforts of the General Education Program faculty to ensure that faculty have both a common understanding of our four General Education Program outcomes and that they assess those outcomes in ways that reflect that common understanding. Specifically, Cornerstone team leaders develop strong assessments for their own courses in the General Education programs, while working with all faculty members teaching that same course to ensure these assessments occur in all sections at similar levels of rigor. A guide book for the teaching of each Cornerstone course is generated to and used by faculty, to ensure a standard approach to outcomes assessment and rigor as new faculty are hired to teach sections of Cornerstone courses.
