  • Kathy Bachman, manager of Viva La Flora, graduated from University of Illinois, has been working in the floral industry for 30 years. She enjoys keeping up with the latest trends in floral design, fashion and home decorating trend trends by reading current floral publications, attending open houses, design classes and seminars in the floral industry. Received 1990 FTD Master Designer certification. Her creative designs have been seen in many community events, Red Cross - Evening of Star, Heartland Idols2, McLean County Chamber event, etc.
  • DJ Bagwell, Owner & President of VisionPro Marketing, LLC, is a marketing consultant and entrepreneurship and personal branding speaker. He comes with experience managing marketing projects for the likes of Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, churches, and nonprofit organizations. DJ holds an MBA and a Bachelors in Communication, both acquired at Western Illinois University.
  • Brian Batronis is a member and officer of the Central Illinois Sport Fencing club and enjoys competing in tournaments around the Midwest. He teaches both youth and adult fencing classes. Brian is a technical analyst at State Farm Insurance.
  • Aur Beck founded the Illinois Renewable Energy Association and the Southern Illinois Center for a Sustainable Future. Aur has lived off grid for 18 years and has been the Chief Technician for 10 years at Advanced Energy Solutions, a solar installation company.
  • Polly Bedford Cooking meals for her family, entertaining friends and letting new techniques or recipes take her where they will is all part of the journey that sustains Polly (much to the dismay of her husband who has happily eaten the same lunch for 10+ years!). As owner of Hedgehog Kitchen, Polly teaches cooking classes that allow students to explore lifestyle changes, save money and create truly satisfying meals. Polly uses simple ingredients with an emphasis on local, seasonal and organic foods that shine on their own with little assistance from fledgling cooks. She is thrilled to guide students to the pleasures of food prepared by their own hands.
  • Cheryl Belligio received her BS and MS in Business Education from Northern Illinois University. She taught in the Chicago suburbs and overseas in Italy for the Department of Defense. She also helped establish the Secretarial Studies Program at Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education in Australia.
  • Jill Belongia has been a fitness enthusiast all her life. She has been teaching group fitness and yoga classes since 2003. She is a Senior Master Trainer with YogaFit, holds her Group Fitness Certification with ACE, and is an E-RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance.
  • Anne Besler has taught French and Business at Bloomington High School for 12 years. She has a Master’s in French from Illinois State University and has traveled throughout France.
  • Beverly Beyer has been writing grant proposals intermittently since 1998, including a year as a full-time grant writer for a Chicago social service agency that resulted in a 25% increase in grant funding. She has been teaching grant-writing since 2002 with consistently high student ratings. She has an M.S. in Sociology from Illinois State University and an M.A. in English from the College of William & Mary, in addition to training from The Foundation Center, The Grantsmanship Center, and the Donors Forum of Chicago. Beverly is a certified Professional Community and Economic Developer, and she has a graduate certificate in project management. She is currently the Associate Director for the Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development at Illinois State University.
  • Diane Boeck is a Certified Teacher of Hatha Yoga through a 200 hour home study course. She currently teaches classes at Heartland Community College and in other locations in Bloomington/Normal. She also teaches Water Aerobics. Diane has found personal benefit in both yoga and water exercise. She enjoys sharing these exercises for the benefit of others. She is also a University of Illinois Master Gardener.
  • Kay Bowen has worked with computers for the last 40 years. She worked at State Farm Insurance for 17 years before coming to Heartland Community College.
  • Charles Bristow is an Instructional Developer at ISU's Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology, where his responsibilities include teaching workshops on web design and editing. He has been working with websites for over 15 years.
  • Al Brown is a licensed home inspector. He has 19 years of experience in home inspections and 24 years as building inspector.
  • Barbara Bruno was born into an Austrian family and grew up speaking German. She also attended a German language school. While employed abroad, she practiced her language skills and learned more about the German culture.
  • Carol Burroughs is a certified Financial Planner® and Principal of Forward Financial Planning, LLC in Normal where she provides guidance in investments, retirement, insurance, education funding, and estate planning for individuals and small businesses.
  • Jeremy Butler is the owner of Pagoda Rebirth Martial Arts and Fitness. He has over 12 years of martial arts experience, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, a Master's in Recreation Administration and he is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. He has a true passion for teaching martial arts and specializes in self-defense and survival tactics.

  • Roy & Judy Chaplin are husband and wife business partners that together have over 40 years of experience in the upholstering business. They own Chaplin's Upholstery and Woodworking Center in Normal.
  • Josh Colon, Heartland Community College and Illinois State University graduate, brings his successful baseball career back to Heartland as the hitting instructor for Community Education. At Heartland Community College he hit .349 as a freshman and continued his success by hitting .391 as a sophomore. He also led the Hawks with 101 assists and helped turn 17 double plays and gained All- Conference honors. Josh continued his success at ISU where he was a part of the 2010 conference championship team and the 2011 team which set the school record for wins with a record of 35-16. After success as a player, he returned to ISU in 2012 as a volunteer coach who worked with both hitters and infielders. The ISU team had one of the highest batting averages in the nation with .297 team average and one of the highest fielding percentages in the Missouri Valley Conference with a .979 fielding percentage. 
  • Jennifer Coombs a Planner for Technisource. She has certifications as a Microsoft Office Specialist, a Master Instructor of Microsoft Office, and a certified Technical Trainer.

  • Brian Davie is a licensed architect and LEED AP with over 13 years of extensive experience with the Farnsworth Group in planning, designing and consulting for various LEED projects across the country. Brian has facilitated
    group study sessions for several of his co?workers at Farnsworth Group to help them pass the LEED AP
    exams.
  • Amy DeFalco is a sign language interpreter with 13 years experience. She has an AAS in Interpreting and a BS in Deaf Education.
  • Michael Donovan is an Adult Probation Officer with over 20 years experience in the field. He is a lifelong Martial Artist holding a 4th Degree Black Belt in Karate and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has over 25 years teaching experience and specializes in women's self-defense and personal safety.

  • Abbey Fairbanks, MS, CCC-SLP/L is a Licensed Pediatric Speech & Feeding Therapist at Easter Seals-Outpatient Clinic in Bloomington. She received her BS and MS from Illinois State University and has over 5 years of experience in her field. In addition to Easter Seals, Abbey also is a Speech Pathologist at Advocate Bromenn Medical Center in Normal. She has a passion for her field, for the children, adults & families she serves and a love for sharing knowledge about Speech & Feeding with others.
  • Kristin Fischer, MS, is the President of Kristin Fischer Fitness, Inc. She holds a master's degree in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois and is a continuing education provider for ACE and AFAA. She is also a subject matter expert for ACE and a Master Trainer for BOSU and Gliding. Kristin is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, group weight management facilitator, and holds several specialty certifications.

  • Janet Giguler studied art at ISU with an emphasis in fibers as an art medium earning her BA in art education. She worked as a production studio weaver at Nantucket Looms, Nantucket, MA, a production designer for Fox Cities Artisans with a weaving staff of eight, taught credit courses at the University of Wis. Fox Valley Center, organized the staff for Sievers and taught weaving there in Washington Island, WI. She has also taught private and community classes in fibers for many years. Janet has exhibited her fiber art in many national juried shows including the American Crafts Museum in NYC. She is now active in local fiber guilds and was also active in other parts of America while continuing to learn, practice and teach fiber arts to all ages.

  • Greg Halbleib is the sports director of WJBC Radio in Bloomington and the radio play-by-play voice of the Normal CornBelters. Greg is a 32-year broadcast veteran, and is also the radio play-by-play voice of Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey and the television voice of Missouri Valley Conference volleyball. He has won several broadcasting awards and is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
  • Ben Hauck pursued a successful career as an environmental engineer for nearly a decade, then picked up his first brush at a Tucson Parks and Recreation class in the winter of 2002 and immediately discovered his true passion. Ben’s artistic mission is to awaken individuals to their potential, to bring out the best in people, to leave every single person that views his art with a sense of greatness, wonder and excitement about themselves. He brings his mission to his art instruction as well, always helping his students grow both in their art and in their life outside of art. Ben designs his classes to be fun and inspiring and he always guides his students to discover the best in themselves.
  • David Haynes has taught music for over 30 years all over the eastern United States. He has a great enthusiasm and love for music.
  • Cathy Hempstead has taught various Ballroom, Latin, and Nightclub styles of social partnership dancing since 1996. She owns her own dance studio, Dance Partners, where she teaches intermediate and advanced dance classes.
  • Gina Henry-Cook, owner of Go Global Inc., teaches travel classes in over 86 cities nationwide, has traveled to over 80 countries and 40 states, and is the author of many travel publications, books, DVDs & CDs.
  • Cindy Houser has a M.S.W. degree from the University of Illinois and is a licensed clinical social worker. She completed her yoga teacher training through Feel Your Best Yoga and is registered as a yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance at the 200 hr. level.
  • Eric Hoss is the author of the book, Removing Doubt in an Interview, sharing his innovative and successful approach to job interviewing that shows how to remove doubt in the eyes of the interviewer. Eric is currently in management at State Farm Insurance and has a bachelor’s degree in communications, and an MBA from Illinois State University.

  • Sarah Johnson has been a Web Specialist at Illinois State University since September 2006. After graduating from Eastern Illinois University in 2001, she has worked in insurance, sales, radio and public relations.
  • Greg Joyce is a professional magician who has been instructing youth magic programs and performing stage magic and close-up magic for over 15 years. He has developed a very creative and enjoyable magic course which has been enjoyed by hundreds of students over the years, giving them the knowledge and confidence to be their own magical entertainer.

  • Josh Kauten enters into his fifth year as the Heartland Hawks' pitching coach. Under Josh's instruction, his pitching staffs have compiled an impressive 3.28 ERA.  In addition, Heartland has led the Midwest Athletic Conference in ERA every year of his tenure. In those four years as pitching coach he has produced 17 Division 1 pitchers, 3 All-Americans, and 2 MLB Drafts. Josh pitched at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa before transferring to Illinois State where he pitched for two seasons.  He earned honors at Kirkwood, as well as, Male Scholar Athlete of the Year at ISU in 2003. Following his collegiate career, he was the 11th round draft pick for the Detroit Tigers in the 2004 Major League Amateur Draft. Josh spent the two seasons split between the West Michigan White Caps and the Lakeland Tigers. He spent the next 2 years of his pro career in Independent Baseball with the Lincoln Saltdogs and the El Paso Diablos of the American Association League.  He finished his pro career with a 3.50 ERA.
  • Otis Kindle is an automotive instructor and vocational educator at Distric 87 Public Schools. He received a Master’s from Illinois State University and a Bachelor’s Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
  • Dana King attended Joliet Junior College and Illinois State University where she received a degree in Graphic Communications. She has an MS in Technical Training. She is currently adjunct faculty at Heartland in the Business Technology program.
  • Wendy King has been employed at Eastland Companion Animal Hospital for over 4 years. She has worked with dogs in a professional setting for 20 years and enjoys teaching them in the Puppy Kindergarten & Socialization class.
  • Patti Koranda is a physical education teacher at Metcalf Lab School at Illinois State University. She is certified as an American Red Cross Instructor Trainer for First Aid, CPR/AED, Lifeguarding, Swimming and Aquatic Safety. She teaches scuba diving for Wild Country.
  • Robin Krutke is the owner and primary instructor the horseback riding facility, Hidden Hill Farms in Carlock. She has over 25 years of experience with horses including teaching, training and showing. Hidden Hills Farm is focused on providing safe, high-quality service, and customer satisfaction for kids and adults.

  • Jonathan Lindsey received his Masters in Clinical-Counseling from Illinois State University and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Research Psychology from Walden University. He is currently employed by Chestnut Health Systems, where he works as coordinator, overseeing residential treatment for recovering addicts. He has been counseling individuals in lifestyle changes and recovery living since 2006.
  • Kelly Lyle is a semi-pro photographer. He teaches eighth grade language arts at Parkside Junior High School. He specializes in portrait and wedding photography with an emphasis on photojournalistic style.
  • Maureen Lyons received her BA and MA degrees in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University and holds a certificate in Interior Redesign. She has taught art in local high schools and is a business analyst at State Farm Insurance.

  • Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance is a collaborative network advancing energy efficiency to support sustainable economic development and environmental preservation. MEEA fosters market penetration of new and existing energy-efficient technologies, products and best practices.
  • Greg Maier is an Instructional Developer and Multimedia Specialist at Illinois State University, where he also received his Master’s in English. He teaches technology classes and creates web content as a webmaster and developer.
  • Ron Maier is a licensed counselor with over 30 years experience in universities, a community behavioral health center, and private practice.
  • Mary McMahon is a faculty member at Heartland Community College. She teaches courses for the Business Essentials program. Mary earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s from Western Illinois University.
  • Eric Micheletti General Manager and Golf Professional at All Seasons Golf Learning Center has been a Golf Professional for 23 years in the Bloomington/Normal area and has been involved with Heartland Community College, Illinois State University, State Farm Insurance, Country Insurance, Mitsubishi Motors, and many other group instruction programs, along with thousands of individual lessons ranging from juniors, women, beginners, and advanced players.
  • Patricia (Patty) Michels has presented fun and educational sessions on a variety of topics from building campfires for cooking to building content for websites. She has a Master of Arts in Communication from Illinois State University and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She has served as Adjunct Faculty at Lincoln College-Normal and Heartland Community College.

  • Marcia Nagy has a Bachelor degree from ISU in business education. She has previously worked in education and development for State Farm. She actively designs and sells fiber art at various art shows in Illinois and has taught private and group knitting classes for many years.
  • Mark Nicholas is a CPA by day and Disney fan 24/7. Mark, along with his co-author Amy O'Donnell, have written three Walt Disney World Travel Guides. Combined, they have visited Disney in excess of 50 times with several trips per year.
  • Deborah Niemann-Boehle In 2002, Deborah dragged her professor-husband and three kids from the Chicago suburbs to a 32-acre homestead on a creek in the middle of nowhere. As clueless city slickers, they made a lot of mistakes, learned a little, and had a lot of fun. Among the many homemade foods she produces, Deborah has been making cheese for ten years using milk from her own herd of Nigerian dwarf dairy goats. In addition, she has authored two books Homegrown and Handmade and EcoFrugal, both endorsed by Mother Earth News magazine as part of their Wiser Living Series.

  • Teri Payne, M.S., is an ACE Gold Certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise instructor. She has over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry.
  • Paul Peacock is a teacher at Lexington High School in computer education courses including computer applications, yearbook design and programming. He holds a master's degree in Applied Computer Science from Illinois State University.
  • Greg Peterson has taught computer classes at Heartland Community Education for over 15 years. He is employed as a Training Analyst at State Farm Insurance and has earned the CIT (Certified Instructional Technologist) designation. Greg previously owned a computer training company.

  • Karen Riccio is an elementary school Literary Resource Specialist for District 87 Public Schools. She received her Master’s in Instructional Technology and Design from Illinois State University and a bachelor's in Elementary Education from Illinois Wesleyan University.
  • Karen Ridinger is an accomplished Usui Reiki Master, supporting over 400 students in Illinois. She created Natural Pathways Holistic Center and Reiki ReSource to share this gift with the community. Reiki is a relaxing hands-on balancing of the energy systems within your body. Karen also aids woman in labor, delivery, postpartum, and to ease the transition process of hospice patients and their families. She also begins her 4th year as president of the Healing Arts Network of McClean Co.
  • Raegan Rinchiuso is the Marketing and Public Information Specialist at Heartland Community College and has five years experience in non-profit marketing. She has an advertising degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is pursuing her MBA at Illinois State University.
  • Nancy Roop is a Certified Travel Counselor and Destination Specialist in Normal. She has worked in the travel and tourism industry for the past 30 years. Her personal and professional travel experience spans 90 countries on 5 continents.

  • Paul Shapiro is a creative writer, artist, and inventor. He has a telecommunications degree from Indiana University. His writing credits include TV shows, books and several film screenplays including Calendar Girl and Breaking the Rules.
  • Lauren Sladek is a graduate of Illinois State University with her bachelor's in Technology Education with an endorsement in Middle Level Education. She has teaching experience at Bloomington High School in the ACC, and is up to date with the latest technology.
  • Christina Smith is an adjunct faculty member in the Business at Heartland Community College. Christina has taught for the Department of Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration and Fortune 100 companies. She is currently a training analyst for Technisource.
  • Shirley Splittstoesser has co-authored a cookbook and written several magazine stories about chefs and their recipes. She and her husband, Walter, wrote and published their memoirs as a gift to their three children.
  • Walter Splittstoesser is a retired University of Illinois professor. He taught horticulture and biochemistry classes and is the author of the book: Vegetable Growing Handbook-Organic and Traditional Methods. He and his wife Shirley have traveled all seven continents including Antarctica.
  • Michael Stalter returns to Heartland Community College for his first collegiate coaching opportunity as an Assistant Coach. Stalter played two seasons in the Mid-West Athletic Conference, one at Lincoln Land Community College and one at Heartland Community College, and compiled a combined .402 batting average with 21 home runs. He was an NJCAA All-American and M-WAC Freshman Player of the Year. Stalter transferred to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he started 109 straight games at shortstop for the Salukis. He was the only player to start every game at SIU during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Stalter played one year for the Southern Illinois Miners of the Professional Independent Frontier League. He helped the Miners set a Frontier League record with a 20-game winning streak which allowed them to tie for the second most wins in a single season at 64. The Miners won their first ever West Division title while Stalter was on the team.
  • Jason Steffens is the Fine Wine on Premise Manager for Hamburg Distributing. Jason has helped open a chain of French Cafés, a French Provencal restaurant, and an upscale Bed and Breakfast.
  • Eric Sweetwood is chairperson for the Social Science department and a History and Psychology instructor at Pontiac Township High School. He has sold on eBay for over nine years.

  • Tammy Taylor, MSN, RN is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Heartland Community College. She serves as the program assistant for the Nursing Assistant program and is a member of the Illinois Department of Public Health Nurse Aide Advisory Board.
  • Dee Thompson majored in Fashion Merchandising at Western Illinois University. Dee is a costumer for Bloomington High School's Drama department, and has worked with Normal Parks and Recreation’s Summer Theater program, the Peoria Opera, for CATS, and for MOVIN' ON during their Bloomington performances.
  • Bill Thomas has been cooking and baking since he was in junior high school. He has won numerous Grand Champion Pie Baking awards at the Fall Festival in Atlanta, IL and was named the Grand Champion Pastry Baker at the 2007 Illinois State Fair.
  • John Tobias, retired director of the Miller Park Zoo. Has had nature and animal photographs published in many zoo publications as well as used in calendars, postcards and billboards. Has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and an A.A.S. in photography from Colorado Mountain College.
  • Mike Tomlianovich runs bridge club games in Bloomington-Normal and teaches bridge for various skill levels at both Heartland and Richland Community Colleges. Mike is an ACBL silver life master player with 1,535 master points to his credit.
  • Sam Tonner has a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Illinois State University, has completed an intense internship experience at Phenomenal Fitness in Chicago, and has helped many people reach their fitness goals. Sam is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise and is also a certified Kettlebell instructor the World Kettlebell Club. With a specialization in functional movement and corrective exercise, Sam will reduce pain in problem areas such as ankles, knees, low back, hips, and shoulders and restore range of motion in those joints to make activities of daily living easier. Sam has also created training programs to increase overall strength and endurance. No matter what your body type or goals, Sam will take your fitness to the next level and help you reach goals you never thought were possible.

  • Cathy Walker-Bilow is a landscape specialist at Grieder Sod and Landscaping. She is also President of Kid Conscious Lawn Care, a local company dedicated to the development of sustainable lawn care products and practices. She has a BS and MS from the University of Illinois.
