Chemistry

Faculty

Thuong Jongky, Biology/Chemistry
John Muench, Chemistry

The chemistry program has been divided into two tracks of courses to better serve various student needs. Chemistry for Health Careers, was created for students who need a chemistry course to fulfill a general education science requirement and is focused more on content and less on abstract problem solving. This course provides students with some general chemistry as well as organic and biological chemistry. With the Associate in Engineering Science program, much of the general chemistry enrollment now comes from the pre-engineering, pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-veterinary fields. These students are better served by a chemistry sequence focused on more abstract problem solving. We have also recently added an Organic Chemistry sequence to 'round out' our offerings.

Courses:

  • CHEM 120 Fundamentals of Chemistry
  • CHEM 161 General Chemistry I
  • CHEM 162 General Chemistry II
  • CHEM 241 Organic Chemistry I
  • CHEM 242 Organic Chemistry II
