Heartland Reads is modeled on many One City, One Book programs, where a large community reads one book in order to share insights, have discussions and plan events around the themes in the book. Heartland Reads is designed to encompass the community of Heartland Community College: the students, staff, faculty and supporters of HCC.
Events for 2008 have concluded. Please check back for our exciting Heartland Reads 2009, in conjunction with Twin City Reads!

Chad Pregracke
From the Bottom Up: One Man's Crusade to Clean America's Rivers by Chad Pregracke
Working and playing in the mighty muddy waters of the Mississippi River, Chad Pregracke grew more and more frustrated by the trash tossed carelessly into the waters. He decided to clean up the river and, with hard work, persistence and personal conviction, proved that one person can make a huge difference. His inspiring book prompts discussion of many topics, including pollution, volunteerism and personal responsibility for ecological concerns.
Participate in events, explore the read-alike books and enjoy Chad's presentation on April 13 at 2 p.m. at the Normal campus in the Community Commons Building, CCB 1406.
