Photography

What will I learn?

After completing courses in Photography, you will be able to:

  • read analytically, with the ability to interpret literal, figurative, impressionistic, creative and critical uses of language and ideas in the context of photography
  • express yourself artistically, with a wide range of emotional effects
  • create works of art that explore a multitude of formal and technical issues and that reflect a wide range of human personality, idiosyncratic behavior, and psychological states
  • understand the historical development of photography and its role in society
  • obtain the coveted Apple Certified Pro and/or Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) certifications.

What is the occupational outlook?

Graduates with degrees in Photography work as fulltime staff or freelance photographers, studio assistants, managers of arts organizations and businesses, teachers of K-12 art (after earning a Bachelor's in Art Education), or teaching studio art at the college or university level (after earning a Master's of Fine Arts or a Master's of Art in a studio discipline).

What are my options?

You can earn credits in photography at HCC and transfer to a four-year college or university, either as an art major or as a major in art education or some other field.

You can take Photography courses simply to develop your ability to photograph and to think critically in order to support your study in other interest areas.
