What will I learn?
After completing courses in Latin, you will be able to:
- read and write in Latin at an intermediate level
- pronounce Latin in an acceptable manner
- understand different aspects of how Latin has influenced the English language
What is the occupational outlook?
The occupational outlook includes a wide range of careers in which knowledge of Latin is useful. Career opportunities may include the medical field, law, literary scholarship, historical scholarship, archaeology, Classics education, linguistic scholarship, religion studies, and the teaching of English.
What are my options?
You can earn credits in Latin at HCC which might transfer to a four year school.
You can take Latin courses to develop your ability to read and write in Latin.
You can take Latin courses to explore the impact of Latin language and culture on western civilization, to prepare yourself for a future study or career in which Latin is a significant component, or just to broaden your thinking and perceptions in order to appreciate the presence of Latin in many aspects of American culture.
