What will I learn?

After completing courses Theater, you will be able to:

  • read analytically, with the ability to interpret literal, figurative, impressionistic, and creative uses of language and ideas
  • express yourself dramatically, with a wide range of emotional effects
  • speak with an effective sense of audience, purpose, and style
  • create characterizations for the stage that reflect a wide range of human personality, idiosyncratic behavior, and psychological states
  • understand the historical development of dramatic literature, its oral presentation, and its role in society

What is the occupational outlook?

There are several dimensions to the field of Theater: performing, directing, management, production promotion, writing, and technical operations. In addition, dancing and singing courses enhance performance versatility.

Theater majors consider work in various venues: the stage, film, TV, video production, and radio. Think of the vast range of materials produced in these various forms which are used in entertainment, information, and instruction.

Jobs in acting, producing, and directing in theater, film, radio, television, and other performing arts media as predicted to increase as fast as the average for all occupations through 2014.1

What are my options?

You can earn credits in Theater at HCC which might transfer to a four year school.

You can take Theater courses simply to develop your ability to speak, read, listen, and think critically in order to support your study in other interest areas.

You can take Theater courses for cultural and personal enrichment.
