Deborah has a long history of post-secondary teaching and administration. Additionally, she has and continues to engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Her endeavors in this area of interest have resulted in numerous national publications, presentations, and leadership roles, including serving as editor of a teaching journal. At Heartland Community College, her primary responsibility is to provide direction, leadership, and management for the Instructional Development Center including offering professional development for faculty with regard to instructional methods and assessment techniques. More specific activities for her include:

  • Provide planning and support for assessment activities at the classroom and programmatic levels.
  • Provice planning and support for the development and review of curricula and instructional methods.
  • Coordinate scheduling of IDC training opportunities for faculty.
  • Provide planning and support for the development and use of instructional technology including classroom and online applications.
  • Foster and maintain collegiality in fulfilling duties and responsibilities.

Here to serve your media technology needs... after graduating from Illinois State University with a Psychology degree Tom decided to return to school and chose Heartland. Here he graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Digital Media Communications and a Web Media Designer Vocational Certificate. Before becoming the Media Technologist in the IDC, Tom worked as a HCC Library Assistant in the Towanda Plaza in 1999 and 2000, a Tutor and Lab Assistant in the Digital Media Department in 2005 and 2006 and served as Lab Assistant in the IDC from October 2005 to September 2007. He enjoys assisting with all aspects of media design ranging from audio production, Adobe Flash, graphic design, web design, and video production.

Provides assistance with:

  • Screen Capturing Assistance using Camtasia Studio. Add your own audio narration to PowerPoint Presentations, Word Documents, or anything you can display on the screen.
  • Graphic Design assistance. I can help you with flyers announcing an workshop/event or a diagrams created to pass out to students.
  • Adobe Flash Design. Add interactivity to your lesson plans by using Flash-based eLearning to your courses.
  • Podcasting/Audio Production. If you need assistance with adding Podcasting to your teaching toolset come into the IDC.
  • PowerPoint Assistance. We can help you prepare PowerPoint slides for courses.
  • Video Production. If you need video shot, edited, transferred from VHS, or saved to other formats (streaming media, CD-ROM/DVD-R) I can assist.
  • Web Design. Add a web presence to your course allowing students to gain access to syllabus, handouts or other materials and information via the Internet.
  • Questions regarding Web 2.0, different uses of media in the classroom, some technology troubleshooting, and more.
