European Escape

This Cultural Tour offers students an easy way to experience the wonders of Europe while earning college credit. Participants may elect to take the Cultural Tour for three hours of credit HUMA 100 at a slightly higher cost.

This trip provides the chance to visit historic sites, enjoy European cuisine, and partake in the local culture. It also offers a mix of sightseeing to locations such as the Anne Frank House, the Palace and Gardens at Versailles, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arc de Triumphe, and the Eiffel Tower as well as some free time to select your own adventures.

European Itinerary

  • Day 1: Depart HCC Raab Road campus mid-morning to Chicago O'Hare International Airport for overnight flight to Amsterdam via Paris. Roundtrip bus transportation provided to/from O'Hare.(In-flight meals)
  • Day 2: Arrive in Amsterdam. Early afternoon motor coach excursion from airport to Marken and Volendam before check-in at Amsterdam hotel. Free time to relax. Dinner at local restaurant.(Dinner included)
  • Day 3: Morning tour of the Anne Frank House. Lunch is on your own. After lunch, canal cruise with the remainder of the afternoon free for sightseeing, shopping, etc. Dinner on your own. (Breakfast included)
  • Day 4: Morning visit to the Rijksmuseum. Lunch is on your own. Free afternoon for group or individual activities. Dinner on your own. (Breakfast included)
  • Day 5: Motor coach to Brussels. Morning tour of Brussels with local tour guide. Signs include the Grand Place with its stunning Town Hall, the Royal Palace, the Cathedral of the Saints Michael and Gudule, the Palace of Justice, and the 'Manneden Pis.' Lunch is on your own. Afternoon is free to explore. Dinner at a local restaurant is included. (Breakfast, Dinner included)
  • Day 6: Morning includes day trip to Bruges with local, licensed guide and canal trip. Lunch on your own in Bruges. Late afternoon return to Brussels. Dinner on your own.(Breakfast included)
  • Day 7: Motor coach to Versailles. Lunch on own en route. Visit the Palace and Gardens at Versailles before continuing to Paris. Dinner at a local restaurant included. (Breakfast and Dinner included)
  • Day 8: Morning sightseeing tour of Paris with local, licensed guide. Main sights are Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triumphe, the Pompidou Center, Sorbonne University, major museums, the Dome des Invalides, the Basilica de Sacre-Coeur, ending the ascent to second level of Eiffel Tower. Lunch/dinner on your own. (Breakfast included)
  • Day 9: Free day for personal or group activities. All museums are open Saturday. Lunch on your own. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Dinner included)
  • Day 10: Motor coach to Charles de Gaulle Airport for return flight to US (Breakfast, in-flight meals included)

Note: The daily itinerary may be subject to change. This program requires extensive walking.

Program Cost**

$2695 (non-credit option) or $2905 (credit option--based on 3 credits at $70 ) includes:

  • Roundtrip transportation from HCC to O'Hare International Airport
  • Airfare--Chicago to Amsterdam via Paris and Paris to Chicago
  • Airport transfers
  • Luxury motor coach in Europe
  • Licensed local English speaking guides
  • Entrance fees as noted in the itinerary
  • First class hotel accommodation that includes a twin bedded room with private facilities. All taxes included.
  • Daily breakfast and four evening meals
  • All tips included except maid service (approximately $1 per day)
  • Health and Accident Insurance--All participants are included in the insurance policy purchased as part of the tour. Coverage terms will be provided to registrants. It is advised to also check any personal or family medical coverage. Trip cancellation insurance is optional and may be purchased at an additional expense.

** Participants requiring a single room will be assessed a $420 supplement.

Payment and Registration

Complete the tour application form and return it, along with your first payment to Kathy Bunting (see Contact Information).
Credit Option: Students who enroll for the credit option must register at Student Services for HUMA 100 as part of their spring schedule. Payment for the class is due according to the established College guidelines for tuition payment.

Payment Plan for TOUR ONLY:

  • Payment 1 (due at registration): $675 ($250 is non-refundable deposit)
  • Payment 2: $675 by November 29, 2006
  • Payment 3: $675 by December 30, 2006
  • Payment 4: $670 by January 13, 2007 (+ single room supplement if applicable)

Cancellation Policy

The following cancellation charges will be applied based on notice prior to departure:

  • 90+ days notice: non-refundable deposit of $250
  • 60-89 days notice: 30% of the total price
  • 30-59 days: 50% of the total price
  • less than 30 days notice: 100% of the total price

Pre-Departure Meeting

All participants will be required to attend a mandatory pre-departure orientation to be scheduled in February 2007.
