Italian Treasures

This Cultural Tour offers students an easy way to experience the wonders of Italy while earning college credit. Participants may elect to take the Cultural Tour for three hours of credit HUMA 100 at a slightly higher cost.

This trip provides the chance to visit historic sites, enjoy Italian cuisine, and partake in the local culture. It also offers a mix of sightseeing in Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Verona, Padua, Assisi, Pompeii, and Sorrento as well as some free time to select your own adventures.

Italian Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Friday, March 10: Depart HCC Raab Road campus in the afternoon to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport for an overnight flight to Milan. Roundtrip transportation provided to/from O'Hare.(Dinner, Breakfast included on flight)
  • Day 2 - Saturday, March 11: Arrive early morning in Milan. Motorcoach transfer to Verona with afternoon walking tour. Lunch on own. Continue to Padua and check into hotel. Welcome drink and dinner will be provided in the evening by your HCC hosts. (Dinner provided.)
  • Day 3 - Sunday, March 12: Transfer to Venice. Meet local guides for morning walking tour. Lunch on own. Afternoon is free to explore Venice. Return to Padua. Dinner on own.(Breakfast is provided.)
  • Day 4 - Monday, March 13: Free time to explore Padua before boarding motorcoach to Florence. Lunch on own enroute. Check into hotel. Walking tour of Florence in the afternoon.(Breakfast, Dinner is provided.)
  • Day 5 - Tuesday, March 14:: Guided tour of Florence. Afternoon free for individual sightseeing and/or shopping. Lunch and dinner on own. (Breakfast is provided.)
  • Day 6 - Wednesday, March 15: Motorcoach transfer to Rome with stop in Assisi. Tour Assisi with local guide. Lunch on own. Mid-afternoon continue travel to Rome and check into hotel. Typical Italian dinner included. (Breakfast, Dinner is provided.)
  • Day 7 - Thursday, March 16: Spend morning sightseeing in Rome with local guide. Free afternoon. Lunch and dinner on own.(Breakfast is provided.)
  • Day 8 - Friday, March 17: Full day excursion to Pompeii and Sorrento. Guided tour of excavations. Free time to explore Sorrento. Lunch and dinner on own. (Breakfast is provided.)
  • Day 9 - Saturday, March 18: Morning tour of the Vatican with local guide. Lunch on own. Afternoon free to sightsee or do last minute shopping. Farewell dinner at local restaurant (Breakfast, Dinner is provided.)
  • Day 10 - Sunday, March 19: Motorcoach to Rome Fiumicino Airport for return flight to US (Breakfast is provided.)

Note: The daily itinerary may be subject to change.This program requires extensive walking.

Program Cost

$2495 (non-credit option) or $2684 (credit option) includes:

  • Roundtrip transportation from Heartland Community College to O'Hare International Airport
  • Airfare--Chicago to Milan and Rome to Chicago
  • Airport transfers
  • Touring by luxury motorcoach in Italy
  • Licensed local English speaking guides
  • Entrance fees as noted in the itinerary
  • First class hotel accommodation that includes twin bedded rooms with private facilities, all taxes included
  • Daily breakfast and four evening meals
  • All tips included except daily maid service (approximately $1 per day)
  • Health and Accident Insurance--All participants are included in the insurance policy purchased as part of the tour. Coverage terms will be provided to registrants. It is advised to also check any personal or family medical coverage.

** Participants requiring a single room will be assessed a $420 supplemental fee.

Payment and Registration

Complete the tour application form and return it, along with your first payment, to CCB 2300.
Credit Option: Students who enroll for the credit option must register at Student Services for HUMA 100 as part of their spring schedule. Payment for the class is due according to the established College guidelines for tuition payment.

Payment Plan for TOUR ONLY:

  • Payment 1: $600 ($250 non-refundable deposit) at time of registration
  • Payment 2: $600 by November 29, 2005
  • Payment 3: $600 by December 30, 2005
  • Payment 4: $695 by January 13, 2006 (+ single room supplement if applicable)

Cancellation Policy

The following cancellation charges will be applied based on notice prior to departure:

  • 90+ days notice: non-refundable deposit of $250
  • 60-89 days notice: 30% of the total price
  • 30-59 days: 50% of the total price
  • less than 30 days: 100% of the total price

Pre-Departure Meeting

All participants will be required to attend a mandatory pre-departure orientation to be scheduled in February 2006.
