Interlibrary Loan: Quirks

Heartland Community College understands that access to resources is vital to education. Through Heartland Library, patrons can go beyond the walls for the resources they need.

What is helpful to know about interlibrary loan?

  • Every library has their own loan periods, so be aware of due dates.
  • Every library has their own renewal policies, so renew a few days before the item is due to make sure the lending library allows renewals.
  • Heartland Library will not process interlibrary loan requests for textbooks.
  • You are responsible for all fines and fees. Any fines and fees incurred to Heartland Library because of patron negligence will be billed to the patron.
  • Any outstanding charges to your Library account must be cleared before you can borrow additional Library materials, register for classes, receive grades, or request transcripts. Call (309) 268-8274 during regular business hours to resolve problems or questions.
  • Fines for items received through WorldCat are not eligible for credits or refunds, even in cases where the material is returned. Return all WorldCat items promptly.
  • WorldCat requests require more Library staff time than I-Share. The Library will only process five requests per day per patron.
  • The Library reserves the right to deny interlibrary loan privileges to anyone we feel is abusing the service. Violations of interlibrary loan privileges can jeopardize our borrowing privileges as an institution.
  • Students at the Lincoln and Pontiac campuses requesting items online (I-Share or WorldCat) should contact their campus secretary to arrange for delivery.
