What are some credible sites about English composition?
- A collection of passages, phrases, and proverbs traced to their sources in ancient and modern literature (1919 edition).
- Extensive guide to effective use of the English language. Includes definitions of sentence parts, rules for comma usage and other punctuation marks, plurals and possessives, spelling, nouns and modifiers, words and phrases to avoid, capitalization, spelling and abbreviations and a lot more. Many interactive quizzes and exercises are included.
- An excellent site for help on effective writing, plagiarism, grammar, research and more.
- Contains more than 13,500 quotations. Author and subject indexes are available for browsing.
What are some credible sites about English literature?
- Covers all periods and movements of American Literature. Includes a timeline, author biographies and bibliographies and an extensive listing of Web sites pertaining to American Literature.
- This site contains book reviews and activities for children's books. Reviewed books are rated and arranged by author, title or grade level.
- Contains links to biographical and bibliographic information about women writers, and complete texts of books written by women.
- The Eserver is a growing online community where hundreds of writers, artists, editors and scholars gather to publish works as open archives free of charge to readers.
- This section of the Internet Public Library gathers sources concerning literary criticism from the Web and groups it by author, title or period.
- This site contains links to full-text stories, folklore and legends such as Robin Hood and King Arthur. There is also a Fairy Tales section with links to several Cinderella stories, Red Riding Hood stories and others.
- A history of the Pulitzer Prize as well as the list of winners from 1917 to the present, including the full-text works of winners from 1995-2002. Information about nominated finalists also is available.
- More than 73,000 historical and critical citations relating to science fiction, fantasy and horror. Search by keyword, author, title or subject.
- Over 25 annotated fairy tales, including their histories and similar tales across other cultures, as well as illustrations. Some of the tales include Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty, The Three Little Pigs and Rapunzel.
- Divided into sections such as "Authors and Texts," "Roots and Influences" and "Criticisms, Ideas and Thoughts," this is an online repository of information about the lives and philosophies of Thoreau, Emerson, Fuller, and other philosophers and writers.
What are some credible sites about English poetry?
- Essays on poetry, biographies of 450 poets, and texts of over 1,200 poems.
- Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky founded this project which asked average Americans to talk about their favorite poems. The site contains the text of some of the favorite poems, videos of Americans reading and speaking about the poems they love, information for teachers and a place to submit your favorite poem.
- An anthology of contemporary poems. Each day a new poem and information about its author is posted. The site is archived for one year.
- Contains more than 150,000 poems. Searchable by poet name, poem title or poem text.
