HCC Exhibit Features Paintings by Gerard Erley

Heartland Community College is hosting an exhibit of oil paintings by Gerard Erley.

Gerard Erley: Landscape and Floral Paintings will be on display March 17 through May 2 in the Joe McCauley Gallery, located in Room ICB 2507 of the Instructional Commons Building on Heartland’s Normal campus, 1500 W. Raab Road. The artist will present a painting demonstration at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in ICB 2602, with a reception to follow from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the gallery.

This exhibition of Gerard Erley's oil paintings presents two distinct bodies of work, landscapes and floral compositions. All of Erley's works are characterized by his use of expressive color, light and brushwork. In his landscapes, Erley states "What I hope to realize in paint is something both poetic and persuasively real.", while he considers his floral paintings as "not unlike a jazz improvisation on a given melody."

Gerard Erley is an Illinois native currently living in South Carolina. He has had over two dozen solo exhibits throughout the United States. His works have been exhibited in over two hundred juried shows, and received numerous awards, including Best of Show at the Sugar Creek Art Festival, Normal, IL, and the Spring Bloom Arts Festival, Bloomington, IL. He holds a Master of Science in painting degree from Illinois State University, and his works are in museum, corporate and private collections both in the United States and abroad.

Exhibits, events, and parking at Heartland’s Joe McCauley Gallery are free. Gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on days the College is open.
