College NOW Instructor awarded Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence

Jodi Lancaster, an instructor in Heartland’s College NOW dual credit program, is a recipient of the 2019 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence award.

Lancaster was selected as one of fifteen second-place winners o10.2019f the $50,000 prize from the Smidt Foundation.

The Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence honors outstanding teachers in skilled trades education in public high schools across America. Lancaster teaches welding at Livingston Area Career Center (LACC). Her students include College NOW students earing dual credit from Heartland Community College.

“Skilled trades teachers help hundreds of thousands of students each year experience the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from learning a trade,” said Eric Smidt, the founder of national tool retailer Harbor Freight Tools.

The monetary award is divided between LACC, receiving $35,000, and Lancaster, who will receive $15,000. LACC will use the award for supplies and equipment for the skilled trades program.
