Heartland student athletes set new mark for academicsDecember 21, 2020
Heartland Hawks athletics teams have achieved a new high point in academic performance.
With a cumulative GPA of 3.25 for the fall 2020 semester, Heartland’s student athletes have posted the highest single semester marks in the College Athletics program history.
The Women’s Cross Country (GPA 3.55) and Women’s Soccer (GPA 3.54) cumulatively gained the highest team marks of all of Heartland’s eight athletics programs.
“I am very proud of our student athletes and coaches,” said Ryan Knox, Director of Athletics. “It took a special dedication this semester to not only remain engaged, but to excel. This academic triumph is a victory for everyone at Heartland. The professors made this possible by displaying a level of dedication and caring far above what was expected. I sincerely thank them and the student athletes for prioritizing academic progress.”
Heartland added four new sports which began in the Fall 2020 semester: Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf and Women’s Volleyball. Women’s Volleyball is scheduled to begin competition in the Spring 2021 semester. The other three sports made competitive debuts in the Fall semester. Student athletes from all four new sports, along with Women’s Soccer, Men’s Soccer, Softball and Baseball were included in the record-setting cumulative GPA.
