Job
Shadowing
Heartland’s Job Shadowing Program
allows students an opportunity to gain information through a firsthand
encounter in the job setting.
By observing someone employed in their career area of interest,
students can gain a better understanding of the responsibilities
involved. Heartland staff works with area employers to arrange the location,
dates and time of the job shadow experience.
Every effort is made to meet participants' requests.
A job shadowing experience is short-term observation, rather than a
hands-on work experience.
Shadows range from a few hours to a full day in length.
Internships
By combining real life experience
and classroom knowledge students become better qualified employees
in their respective career fields.
Employers throughout the district provide on-the-job work
experience, which enable students an efficient way to develop their
skills. In addition, Heartland participates in the Illinois Cooperative Works
Study program, which provides funds to reimburse employers for a
portion of the salary paid to interns. Students gain
academic credit for work experience related to their area of study.
Paid and unpaid internships range from one credit hour to
four credit hours per semester. Each credit hour is equal
to 75 hours of work. Students
may earn a maximum of six credit hours in internships.
