The Student Library Advisory Committee was formed to involve
students in library programs and inform the students, staff and faculty
of issues that involve libraries, especially HCC Library. Students will
have a forum for communicating ideas and comments on library collections
and practices in open, interactive meetings. Students will organize programs
that will highlight the library as a valuable community asset.
Students, faculty and staff will all benefit from a library that is responsive
to student needs. The HCC community will also benefit from increased awareness
of the library and its assets.
The members of SLAC will form a core group of students excited about
the library and its services. This group will involve other students and
staff in library activities. Use and awareness of the library will increase
utilization and, ultimately, student success and satisfaction.
Goals of the club include;
- Providing a forum for student input on library collection and practices
- Organization of programs that highlight the library and its use
- Student involvement in HCC Community
- Increase awareness of Library collection and use
- Imporve Library services to student population
Activities for the club include monthly meetings for discussion of ideas
and comments on activities, organization of programs that highlight library
services and collections (example: National Library Week), involvement
in HCC activities such as Springfest and Fallfest, fundraising activities
to provide money for field trips and other activities that involve the
HCC community (example: poetry readings).
