In Between the Cracks

In Between the Cracks

Curatorial statement

In Between the Cracks features Bloomington-based artist, Laura Primozic George, who is currently the Instructional Technician in the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.

Laura’s work takes a closer look at environmental issues and introduces an interesting point of view on the matter. She focuses on the parts that survive and thrive without human’s help and despite our interaction. She states: “Moss has beautiful colors, an incredible range of textures, is stable and persistent. It can seemingly break through pieces of earth, blanket rolling hills, and encompass hundred-year-old trees.  Moss is overlooked, stepped over, stepped on, or scraped aside. Yet, it thrives without human help, care, or interest.”

Her usage of material and the way she puts cold bold concrete next to the soft green moss evokes the idea of humanmade technology versus nature. The city's cold view versus a green and warm landscape as well as the ways that they can coexist and complete each other.

In Between the Cracks is organized by Shahrbanoo Hamzeh, Heartland Community college gallery coordinator.
