Individual Merit Badge Workshop

Individual Registration

Payment is due the day of the workshop. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before start time. Doors will be locked 10 minutes after workshop start time. Once doors are locked, late arrivals will not be permitted to enter.

Schedule a workshop for your troop or pack.  Choose from one of the following topics, or contact the CLC to arrange a topic.


Astronomy Badge*
Program Length: 4 Hours    
$30/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn an Astronomy Badge by completing the following requirements: describe proper clothing and precautions of nighttime and sun observations; explain light pollution and how it affects astronomy; explain differences between binoculars and telescopes; identify constellations, conspicuous stars, Big Dipper and Milky Way; identify and explain the motion of planets; sketch the phases of the moon; describe the composition of the Sun; visit a planetarium; research career opportunities in astronomy.


Aviation Badge*
Program Length: 6 Hours    
$40/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn an Aviation Badge by completing the following requirements: define aircraft, identify types of aircraft and explain the principles of flight; build and FPG-9; learn about airplane instruments, conduct preflight inspection of an airplane; visit an airport or aviation museum; research career opportunities in aviation.


Chemistry Badge*
Program Length: 4 Hours    
$30/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn a Chemistry Badge by completing the following requirements: learn about laboratory and chemical safety; conduct experiments with iron nail and copper sulfate; construct a Cartesian diver and describe how it works; experiment with heat, abrasiveness of household cleaners, properties of oil and water; explore various areas of chemistry; learn about government agencies responsible for tracking use of chemicals and pollution; and learn about the work done by chemical engineers.


Engineering Badge*
Program Length: 6 Hours    
$40/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn an Engineering Badge by completing the following requirements: investigate how an household item works; research an engineering achievement; explain the work of engineers; visit with an engineer; make a step-by-step plan for campout; conduct experiments; study the Engineer's Code of Ethics and what it means to be a registered Professional Engineer; research career opportunities in aviation.


Game Design Badge*
Program Length: 4 Hours    
$30/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn a Game Design Badge by completing the following requirements: compare and contrast different games you have played; learn game design terms, pick a game and modify it, design a new game and test it; hear from a game developer and careers in game development.  Post workshop activities required to complete this badge.


Robotics Badge*
Program Length: 6 Hours
$45/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn a Robotics Badge by completing the following requirements: learn about and discuss robotic safety, robotic industry, and the major fields of robotics; design, program and test a robot; learn about robotic competitions as you prepare for a mock competition; and learn about every day uses for robots and careers in robotics.


Space Exploration Badge*
Program Length: 6 Hours    
$45/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn a Space Exploration Badge by completing the following requirements: research and present the purpose of space exploration; design a collector card about a space pioneer; build and identify the parts of a rocket, then launch and recover a model rocket; demonstrate Newton's 3 Laws of Motion; discuss and design an unmanned mission to another planet, moon or region of space; describe the purpose and operation of the International Space Station; design an inhabited base for Mars; and discuss careers in space exploration.


Weather Badge*
Program Length: 4 Hours    
$30/scout, minimum 10 scouts

Earn a Weather Badge by completing the following requirements: define meteorology, explain weather and climate and discuss how weather affects different occupations and industries; name five different weather-related conditions and the safety rules for each; explain differences in high and low pressure systems, fronts and clouds associated with each; describe causes of rain and acid rain; draw a diagram of the weather cycle; make a weather instrument and journal to log weather, give a five minute presentation regarding outdoor safety or acid rain; and research weather related career opportunities.


*Scouts DO NOT fly a simulated mission. Workshops are badge earning opportunities, please leave siblings at home.
