Adult Education - High School Equivalency (GED)
Whether you want to learn Adult Basic Education skills or need a refresher on the skills required to pass your High School Equivalency (GED), we're here to help you reach your goal.
To get started in the AE program, you will first need to complete an online enrollment form, which is available by clicking here. After completed, you may contact 217-735-1731 to be added to the waitlist for an in person placement testing session. Placement testing for Fall 2024 will start in July.
Fall 2024 classes
Classes will start August 2024.
You may register and join classes throughout the semester.
In-person classes:
Monday and Thursdays, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (in classroom)

Wednesdays, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (online workshop)
Monday and Tuesdays, 5:30 - 8:30 pm. (in classroom)

- Classes are paid for by state and federal grants. You pay nothing.
The GED is an online high school equivalency exam that measures your knowledge in the following areas:

You must be 17 years of age to take the GED test.
Students must be 16 or older to attend classes. However, any student under 18 years of age will have to provide a high school release before attending class.
Can I take other classes at Heartland while preparing for the HSE exam?
Yes, but you may not be eligible to receive financial aid without the HSE certificate.
Are these preparation classes required to take the GED?
No, but we recommend you do. The GED is lengthy and difficult and most people need some preparation in order to successfully pass the sections.
How do I get my GED scores?
Approximately two hours after you've completed testing, your scores will be posted under your profile on the ged.com site.
If you need results from past testing, call the Regional Office of Education from the county in which you tested.
