Heartland Athletics teams hit new mark for academic performance

December 21, 2018

The Heartland Hawks athletics teams have achieved a new high point in academic performance.

With a cumulative Fall GPA of 3.07, Heartland’s student athletes have posted the highest marks in the program’s history, and the highest of any semester in 10 years.

Eleven student athletes posted straight-A’s this Fall semester. The highest performing of Heartland’s athletics teams was the Softball program, which posted a group 3.23 average.

“The coaches for all of our programs should be commended for their priority to focus and emphasize academics with our student athletes, as should our advisement staff, whose diligence with athlete’s accountability and progress have supported our students,” said Ryan Knox. “The bulk of the recognition should go to our student athletes, however. Their hard work in and out of the classroom is paying off with academic achievement.”

The Men’s Soccer program saw a team increase of .5 in cumulative GPA over the previous year. The Baseball team GPA exceeded a 3.0 team threshold for the first time in the program’s history, posting a 3.18 average.
