Heartland offers free classes for adults aged 16 and older who want to prepare for the GED exam, or who need help with basic reading, writing, and math. GED classes include U.S. and Illinois Constitution review for students who need to complete the Constitution exam before taking the GED.
Heartland works with students to create individual study plans so students can focus their efforts on the skills they need to improve in order to pass the GED, or to be successful in the workplace or other academic courses.
Classes are available in Bloomington-Normal, Lincoln, and Pontiac. New students can enroll anytime during the semester.
Adult Education students at the Normal campus are eligible for childcare services at the College’s Child Development Lab, and may receive free one-on-one tutoring through the Academic Support Center or through Project READ in Lincoln. Scholarships are also available to GED completers who would like to take other classes at Heartland.
Bridge to Business Basics will help GED students learn skills and
knowledge needed for the business world while also preparing for the GED
exam. For example, a student may improve writing skills by preparing
business letters. Math skills may be taught through the use of
accounting spreadsheets. Students will also learn basic typing and
office computer skills. Students who successfully complete this course
and pass the GED should be ready to enroll in one of several business
certificate or degree programs offered at Heartland Community College.
This eight-week program is only available on the Main Campus in Normal.
