and General Facts About Heartland

the edge at Heartland Community College. Heartland Community
College offers training in more than 40 career fields in innovative
and technologically progressive learning facilities. Classrooms
and labs combine the latest advances in technology with the type
of personal, hands-on instruction students need to reach their academic
goals.
HCC serves District 540, a geographic corridor that extends along
Interstate Highway 55 in Illinois roughly from Pontiac to Lincoln.
Campus locations in Normal, Lincoln and Pontiac make the College
an accessible option for all District residents.

History
- November, 1990 - District 540 Community College officially
formed
- December, 1990 - First temporary site, Landmark Mall,
opens
- February, 1991 - Heartland Community College wins name
contest
- July, 1991 - First president, Dr. Jonathan Astroth, appointed
- August, 1991 - College opens for classes
- October, 1992 - Classes begin at Towanda Plaza
- Fall, 1993 - Nursing program begins
- Summer, 1994 - College accredited by North Central Association
of Colleges & Schools
- June, 1998 - Permanent campus ground breaking
- February, 2000 - New logo adopted
- Fall, 2000 - New campus opens
