The Joe McCauley Gallery is pleased to present a faculty art exhibition featuring works by Heartland Community College’s full-time and adjunct ART faculty.

Joseph E. McCauley Art Scholarship

Established in memory of Joe McCauley, a beloved HCC art instructor, this $500 scholarship was funded by colleagues, family, and friends to benefit students committed to studying visual arts and/or art history.

  • Award: $500
  • Deadline: September 1st
  • Requirements:
    • Full-time enrollment (minimum of 6 credit hours per semester).
    • Current HCC students must meet College academic requirements for good standing. There are no additional high school or college GPA requirements. 
  • Additional Criteria: 
    • Visual art focused applicants must digitally submit an art portfolio of 6-8 pieces of artwork to the Foundation by the application deadline to be considered for this scholarship. 
    • There is no portfolio requirement for students applying in the area of art history.
    • Essay Question for Visual Arts Students: Describe the contents of your art portfolio with particular attention paid to aspects of medium, influence, concept, artistic intent, and method of self-reflection.
    • Essay Question for Art History Students: What role does artistic expression paly in defining a culture? Provide an overview of a specific culture's history of art and how that history has influenced its development.

Our gallery serves to celebrate the life of Joe McCauley (1952–2009), a member of the College's original faculty. During his 18-year career at Heartland, Joe taught thousands of students with his unique perspectives on art and life.

The gallery provides a shared cultural space where diverse art experiences can enrich the lives of students, Heartland employees, and members of the larger community.

Joe McCauley Gallery exhibitions and events are free and open to the public. The gallery presents rotating art exhibitions with concurrent events throughout the year and showcases the work of student and professional artists. Gallery events include:

  • Artist receptions
  • Talks
  • Workshops
  • Demonstrations
