The Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees represent the first two years of study for a bachelor’s degree. The third and fourth years of study are completed at a four-year college or university.
What do you need to graduate with your Associate in Arts or Associate in Science?
View the Program Requirements* (PDF format, 2 pages, 130KB) for more specific information on completing your degree.
General education requirements for a transferable Associate's degree include:
Communications (9 credits)
Humanities and Fine Arts (9 credits)
Social and Behavioral Sciences (9 credits)
Life and Physical Sciences (7-8 credits)
Math (3-8 credits)
Electives (19-23 credits)
Since four-year institutions vary in their requirements, A.A. and A.S. students are required to meet with an advisor to determine the sequence of courses which will most successfully transfer to the four-year institution of their choice. All courses chosen from the disciplines listed above must be Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) approved courses. How do my classes from Heartland transfer to other colleges and universities?
If you plan on completing any type of degree or certificate from Heartland, you must submit official transcripts to Heartland. To be considered official, your transcripts must be sent directly from your other college to Heartland. We cannot accept hand-carried transcripts as official.
If you want an evaluation of your transfer credits, Heartland must have your official transcripts on file at least one week prior to your appointment. We cannot complete official credit evaluations on unofficial transcripts.
Want to speak with someone from your transfer institution? Keep an eye on our Upcoming College Visits.
