Heartland offers courses for personal enrichment or to improve your work skills. If you are interested in taking a class or two listed on our online class schedule for college credit, continue below!

Step 1: Apply
If you'd like to take a few Heartland classes for personal interest or to improve your work skills, you must apply as a non-degree-seeking student. Select Take one or more classes without pursuing a Heartland degree or certificate on page 4 of the application. The courses will be for credit on your Heartland transcript, but are not eligible for financial aid. After you apply, complete the steps below to register for classes.
Step 3: Check the Class Schedule
Check the class schedule to ensure you meet prerequisites.
If you plan to enroll in an online class, check the class description:
- For some online classes, you may need access to a webcam and a laptop to complete exams.
- For other online classes, there may be a requirement for exams to be completed in an in-person proctored testing environment.
Step 4: Submit Unofficial Transcript
To take classes at Heartland, you need to verify that you meet the prerequisites.
- If you have previous college credit, submit an unofficial transcript or progress summary:
- If you do not have previous credit that meets the prerequisites, complete placement testing or submit documentation to waive placement.
Step 5: Submit Residency Documentation
- Submit residency documentation to receive the in-district tuition rate.
Step 6: Contact Advisement and Register for Classes
Once you have completed steps 1-5, you must connect with Advisement and ensure prerequisites have been met before you can enroll. View the Advisement page to learn how to contact an academic advisor.
Step 7: Pay Tuition
When it comes to paying for college, you have many options. You can access your student bill online by visiting home.heartland.edu, logging in to Student Center, then choosing View My Schedule/Bill.
