Welcome to Adult Education
Adult Education offers High School Equivalency (GED), English as a Second Language, and Academic English Language Programs for those seeking to enhance their careers and transition into college courses.
We understand how complicated may life get sometimes, therefore, Adult Education offers classes in the mornings or evenings. The schedule might be different for each program. Classes are available online and on campus.
High School Equivalency (GED)
In this program, students will gain skills to take the GED test, prepare for the workforce, or take college classes.
These classes will help you prepare for a high school equivalency exam, but also help you to get a new or better job or get ready for college.
On June 24, 2022 "Governor JB Pritzker signed SB3792 into law, amending the code of multiple acts and agencies to replace references to high school equivalency certificates to State of Illinois High School Diplomas. This change recognizes the equal value of the State of Illinois High School Diploma and will aid Illinois graduates in establishing reciprocity with educational requirements in other states".
This law went into effect on January 1, 2023. Read more about this exciting change!
On-campus and online classes are available. The classes are usually held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Generally, Morning classes begin at 9 AM and run until 12:30 PM. Evening classes begin at 5 PM and run until 9 PM.
Complete and Connect Program
If you are 16 to 24 years old, this program is the opportunity to earn your High School Equivalency while working on college and work readiness. Complete and Connect Program works in partnership with Career Link, a non-profit organization that connects individuals with employment opportunities through training and services. Heartland provides the classroom aspect through four in-person levels while Career Link provides the employment opportunities.
English Language Programs
Functional English as a Second Language (FESL)
The goal of this program is to help non-native English speakers learn basic English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Whether you just want to learn basic English or to take advanced English language courses that help you transition into academic courses, this program could be a great start for you. The five levels offered in this program will put you on the right path in your English learning journey.
Academic English Language Program
Attending and completing this advanced English language program will prepare students for college-level coursework and the workplace.
