The Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI) program offers assistance to students looking to attain a certification in high-demand jobs. Together, we can remove barriers and improve the equity of our community.

What is WEI?

The WEI program is sponsored by the Illinois Community College Board to address workforce gaps and help participants secure a well-paid, full-time career. The certificates available can be completed in one year or less and are in areas with high employment opportunities. In addition to free tuition and books, participants in this program can expect

  • Job training and skills development
  • Industry-recognized credential support
  • Employer connections
  • Employability skills development
  • Job placement assistance
  • Other services to address barriers to completion

Eligibility criteria for WEI:

  • Resident of the Heartland Community College District
  • 21 or older
  • Qualify as low-income
  • Meet the requirements of your selected WEI certificate
  • Eligible to work in the US and committed to finding employment after program completion
