Visiting / Guest Students

Whether you’re looking to get ahead or lighten your load, taking classes at Heartland is a great choice. 

Step 1: Apply 

If you’re currently at another institution, you will apply to “take one or more classes without pursuing a Heartland degree or certificate.”  After you apply, complete the steps below to register for classes.

Step 2: Log on to myHeartland

  • After you’re accepted, you’ll receive an email with your Heartland login information. Use it to create your password and review your Tasks in your Student Center.

Step 3: Review Class Schedule

Locate the class(es) you'd like to take and ensure you have met the prerequisites. 

  • If you have met prerequisites with previous college coursework, submit an unofficial transcript or progress summary to records@heartland.edu. 
  • If prior coursework does not meet prerequisites, complete placement testing or submit applicable documentation to waive placement. 
If you plan to enroll in an online class, check the class description:
  • For some online classes, you may need access to a webcam and a laptop to complete exams.
  • For other online classes, there may be a requirement for exams to be completed in an in-person proctored testing environment.

Step 4: Submit Residency Documentation 

Step 5: Contact HCC Advisement and Register for Classes

  • Once you have completed steps 1-4, you must connect with Advisement and ensure prerequisites have been met before you can enroll.  View the Advisement site for information on how to contact an academic advisor.

Step 6: Pay Tuition

  • View tuition due dates here.  When it comes to paying for college, you have many options. You can access your student bill online by visiting home.heartland.edu, logging in to Student Center, then choosing View My Schedule/Bill.   

Step 7: Request Official HCC Transcript

  • Once your Heartland class is complete, request that your official transcript be sent to your home institution to add the class to your record.
