  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for veterinary assistants is expected to grow 19% from 2016-2026, faster than the average for all occupations.  By the year 2024, projected regional jobs are to be approximately 1,310.*

*Projected jobs are for regions roughly equating to HCC district 540.

  • There are no formal prerequisites or placement testing requirements for this program.

  • The Veterinary Assistant program, HS 103, introduces students to the exciting and growing field of veterinary medicine.  Students will learn about the care of animals as well as how to recognize signs of illness and disease.  This program also covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as how to assist the veterinarian during examinations.  Administrative duties, such as fee collection, banking, and accounts payable are also emphasized to provide the student with the skills necessary to maintain an efficient front office.  Note: This program does not include a national or state certification or a clinical rotation as part of its overall objectives.  Students must receive a grade of "C" or better to receive the HCC Certificate of Completion.
