Student Rights and Expectations of Conduct

Heartland is committed to providing an equitable, supportive, and safe learning environment. To ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed, everyone is expected to uphold the standards outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. For detailed information about your rights, college expectations, and available resources, please review the Student Handbook.

Understanding the Conduct Process:

  • Purpose: Protects community well-being and addresses instances where student behavior does not align with college policies.
  • Due Process Guarantees: Includes formal written notice of alleged violations, a conference or hearing before an objective decision-maker, and the right to appeal.
  • Standard of Review: No student will be found in violation without information demonstrating that a policy violation was more likely than not to have occurred. Any resulting sanctions are proportionate to the severity and history of the conduct.

For any questions about the Code (PDF) or the Conduct Process, email the Dean of Students.
